Singing 'Happy Trails' to 3 Sweet Babies!

Over the past two weekends, we had the joy of sending off three sweet babies - all unique in species and personalities! This posting is a tribute to Leeloo (Timneh African Grey), Archie (Umbrella Cockatoo) and Tonka (Greenwing Macaw). Enjoy our walk down memory lane.

Again, it goes without saying... these birdies are blessed beyond measure - we had the pleasure of spending a little time with these babies to help them get off to a good start in life and then they moved on to their permanent families - sounds like a triple blessing to me: 1) for Jeremy and me, 2) for Leeloo, Archie and Tonka, and 3) for their families.

We just love the match-making business!

Supervised Playtime for the Greys

The sign of a confident bird is a bird that can play on the floor and the birdies going through our process get lots of that! In this short video clip, enjoy four baby African Grey babies (two Timneh and two Congo) having some fun learning how to share. You will also see a short fly-in visit from Leeloo, a Timneh African Grey we were hand-raising for Lanie from Everett. Leeloo is now home with her family, and knowing here, settling in nicely.

Enjoy the video...

Gizmo's Breakfast Conversation

Gizmo has blessed our lives in ways you cannot imagine. Originally we brought this baby Hahns Macaw into our nursery as a traveling companion to another bird already sold to a customer (we like to save on shipping costs so it we can bring a traveling buddy along, and pass the savings along to our customers).

We love Macaws and were very intrigued with this mini version. If you research the Hahn's Macaw you will learn that the Hahn's Macaw is the smallest of the three sub-species of Red-shouldered Macaw - a very tiny Macaw reaching only about 12" (30 cm) in total length. Owning a hand-raised Hahn's Macaw is an ideal bird for a beginner or someone who lives in an apartment or condo. They have a very friendly social nature and are easy to take care of. They are small and easy to handle and they can be pretty fair talkers. The Hahn's is an all around good choice for individuals who want big personality in a small package!

Well, after baby Hahns got settled into our the routine around the nursery, we soon lost our hearts to this little fellow. It didn't take long for Jeremy and I to say, let's keep him!.... and we did :-). And we named him Gizmo.

Here are a shot of ours truly and Gizmo.

Well, Gizmo has been a part of our personal flock for a few months now. Each morning when I prepare breakfast for the birds I often like to take one of the bird with me into the kitchen to help me prepare - or supervise preparation. Today I took Gizmo and I captured the below video that give you a sense of what a chatterbox Gizmo is.... enjoy!
